A Message From Principal Hatter

Dear Families of Elsa Widenmann Elementary,

Thank you for all your support as we started our new school year. Please continue to support your child by checking their homework daily for completeness and by spending time listening to them read aloud or reading aloud to them. Please remember that homework is assigned Monday - Thursday for all grades, and reading will always be a part of the daily homework assignments.

We are continuing with our focus on supporting our positive school climate by reminding our students to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Positive Behavior Intervention Support awards are given weekly to students who are being Safe, Respectful and Responsible in all grade levels and PBIS All-Star assemblies are held monthly. Please continue to remind your child how easy it is to follow these three agreements not only at school, but also in the community.

This year we will continue to use the Accelerated Reader Program to support your child's reading comprehension at school. Accelerated Reader is a computerized program that first tests your child's reading comprehension abilities and identifies a comfortable reading level for each child to begin reading. By November all students in grades 2-5 should be able to tell you what their AR reading level is and how many books they have successfully read and been tested on. If they are unable to do this please talk with their teacher about how you can better support them with the AR program.

Continued thanks to our School Site Council President Mrs. Samantha Barnes, our English Learners Advisory Council President Mrs. Lili Romo. I would also like to thank Ms. Venita Sepolen for her continued work as our District Advisory Council Representative (DAC).  Please reach out to myself or your representatives if you have any questions or suggestions for the betterment of our school.

I would like all Widenmann parents to know that any of the time you give at Widenmann, helps to create positive opportunities for our students to grow and learn. Our motto is, "College and Careers begin right here."

Thank you all for your continuing support,

Principal Hatter
